Television No Sound

The surround sound does not work with my TV or PS3, what is wrong?
I just got a new surround sound system and was glad Souna Wiring of all, one or two hours later and thought it was over, but when I connected the HDMI cable on the TV and turned around, no noise. The same thing happened with my console. However, when reading the CD, that theirs is a lot of noise. can someone please tell me what is wrong and how to fix. both on television and surround sound are Samsung
