Child Obesity in America
The epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States never seems to have been more frequent than it is today. Even with all the attention of the media about weight gain and lower activity for all children of our country, it seems to occur by the differences that the next generation has to do. What is even scarier is that we need not television and obesity statistics to know that the problem will not disappear, we can see in our neighborhoods and sometimes in our own homes.
There is hope. Education is essential, education, education for parents, teachers and community, but also for children. Besides we all know, the easier it is to create a change.
When working with men, women and children as a personal trainer, instructor group exercise instructor at the youth and sports over the past ten years I have seen the high and low fitness in the U.S.. Having witnessed some of these below, I still see light at the end of the tunnel, but more important is that children see the light.
You know what? They do.
What can we do as individuals to begin making a difference in the lives of children suffering from obesity in children?
Here are four tips for fighting obesity in American children
Get support: When you least expect it, kids are listening. It seems fascinated and distracted by television, their iPod or their cell phones our words, both positive and negative pole. Begin to model or try to be what they think they think of them.
If your message is consistent "is overweight and anything but sit watching TV all day, then that is what will eventually follow. Positive reinforcement like, "You looked so fast running school bus at the door today. I bet that you do so well in football, is a good way to encourage you'd like see more often.
Leading by example: My parents have always been my greatest hero. Some of my favorite childhood memories were playing baseball and football in the front yard, basketball in the lobby, or just running to my mom and dad up and down the street. Not occurred to me years late the magnitude of the impact it had on me to grow and is probably part of why writing now. Thanks Mom and Dad!
Discussion: Children adults and travel magazines, read newspapers and watch television every day. Look for opportunities for training. When news comes at a clip that focuses on obesity U.S. infant, ask your children about their thoughts. You might be surprised to discover that their knowledge of the subject is more detailed than originally thought. What's even better? They can have great ideas to stop childhood obesity.
