If I can get my doctorate in anthropology, what career path I seek?
I started at NYU in the fall of 2010; I plan to major in anthropology and minor in sociology. My ultimate goal is to obtain my doctorate in anthropology, we hope to work my way to becoming a forensic anthropologist. Its been a dream of mine since long before it became popular on television as Bones or NCIS, which is why I am a bit concerned that the quarry will not be in demand when I graduate I plan on doing with a Ph.D. to save or to work in advertising or public relations, where forensic anthropology is not working as expected. Are these available in two runs with a BA in Anthropology? Or should I double major or minor in marketing, too? I looked around and do a lot of mixed responses on the subject.
With a Ph.D., you can probably find a teaching job somewhere. If you want be a forensic anthropologist, I suggest you get rid of sociology as a minor and attempted biology or law. In particular, I recommend anthropology and biology as a double major in law and as a miner. Sociology does little to help their academic goals. A thorough understanding of the biology and anatomy of man is essential to becoming a forensic anthropologist, and the right is also useful, especially if you want to be medical examiner. Find a career as a forensic anthropologist will take time, hard work and patience. This is a limited area and not as glamorous as described on television, but it's so interesting as it seems. You will need a number of powers, and perhaps a long wait before finding a line of work you are interested My best advice is to explore all avenues of anthropology and go with something of interest. Understanding what to do, and make every effort to do so. You can always try to practice and field studies after graduation to get more experience, which could help get a job faster. Teaching can be a good return on plan well. Talk to your advisor and see what they think too much. Good luck!
